Stetson is a 25 year-old, 16-hand chestnut Thoroughbred gelding who needs a good home. He was a lesson horse for the last few years of his life, but was diagnosed as being neurological, and will trip when ridden, so had to be retired. His owner could no longer use him for lessons, so asked Hanaeleh for help in placing him. At that time he was very thin and in need of vet care. We found a wonderful woman who agreed to take Stetson as a companion for her other gelding. Unfortunately after several months the horses are still not getting along, and Stetson does not like being left alone when she takes her other gelding out on trail. Both horses are unhappy with the current situation, so we are trying to find Stetson a home where he will be happy.
Stetson is a very sweet horse who loves people and enjoys being around other horses. He is sociable and friendly. Stetson just had a vet visit, and had his teeth floated and sheath cleaned. He is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. He is barefoot and his feet are in good condition. Stetson has a mild case of cushings, so he will need a small dose of Prescind or Pergolide daily. He is still on the thin side, so his current owner has been feeding him pellets to help him gain weight. His neurological issues prevent him from being ridden, but it does not affect him otherwise; he can be turned out, and can be hand walked as well.
Stetson worked many of his years for humans, and made a lot of money during his years as a lesson horse for his owner. We are hoping that there is someone out there who needs a companion for their horse, or who wants a loving boy for their pasture. For all that he has done throughout his life, he deserves a happy ending.
