It's been a while since we've done an update on Stetson. Stetson is a 26 year-old gelding who was a lesson horse before he was diagnosed with neurological issues. Although he spent his life working for humans and making them money, his future was very uncertain. We tried to find him a home as a companion horse, but he and the other horse did not get along, and he would get very upset when left by himself. UPDATE: Ruby
We've had our beautiful Ruby for two years now- she is now 17. Ruby came to us because her owner was losing her ranch and did not have money to feed or care for her horses. Other rescues had offered to take the rest of the horses, but no one wanted a middle-aged Thoroughbred who was not trained to ride. Ruby's fate was uncertain, so Hanaeleh stepped up and rescued her. UPDATE: Rio
Rio was adopted by our treasurer, Lori, and has been living at Hanaeleh for about ten years- he is now 25 years old. A few years ago he was diagnosed with a hematoma in his nasal cavity that was impeding air intake, and he was put on prednilosone to help reduce the swelling, and promote regular breathing. One of the side effects of the prednilosone is the suppression of the immune system, and Rio started to come down with topical fungal infections. UPDATE: Quixote
We rescued Quixote about four years ago. He had been purchased by a family who did not have the ability to work with a horse of his temperament, and quickly became fearful of him. The more difficult he became, the more they left him in his stall. When Hanaeleh took Quixote, he had spent the better part of two years stuck in a small stall.
