San Juan Capistrano: Special Home Needed For Hunter/Jumper Gelding

August 20, 2014 By ezarkos

Easy Street is a 15  y/o chestnut Thoroughbred who needs a very special home. Easy was purchased for $21,000 last year by a family for their daughter. He is very well-trained and was jumping 3-4′ without a problem.  He was thin when they purchased him, and thought that he just needed some weight put on him and he would be fine.

Unfortunately, Easy is a very hard keeper, and he got very depressed in the box stall he was kept in.  His family was concerned that he was just not getting better, and the vet could not find anything wrong with Easy.  They decided that a show career was not a good fit for Easy, and he would be better off in a less-stressful situation.

Easy does crib (he’s fine with a cribbing collar), and we have been treating him for ulcers, and that seems to be helping.  He is what we would consider to be a hard keeper, however- he is very picky with his food, although he is finally eating better.   He is in a pipe stall right now, but the mare next to him is very flirtatious, and he responds accordingly, so they have had to be separated. He would probably be better right now next to a gelding instead of a mare.

We are looking for someone who is willing to take on Easy’s care. When he gains weight he can be ridden, and is sound. He is good on trail with other horses, and can be jumped, although a full-time show career would probably make him stressed out again.  Easy was originally priced at $40,000, even though he was purchased for $21,000, so someone would be able to take on an incredibly awesome horse as long as they were willing to deal with his maintenance issues.  The holistic doctor who has been treating Easy has offered to continue to advise the new owners for free.

Easy is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations and has just had his teeth floated. He has shoes on all four feet, and is due to be trimmed in the middle of September.

There is no adoption fee for Easy, although a new owner would have to sign a contract with a first right-of-refusal to Hanaeleh (we don’t want him sold to someone else). We can trailer him to his new home if necessary.

For more information on Easy, please contact Elizabeth: elizabeth@hanaeleh.org or call: (949) 842-7408.

Thank you!

Glenda Gets a Brand-New Coop (Thanks to Our Amazing Volunteers!)

August 28, 2025 By ezarkos

Glenda is one of the chickens at our ranch, and she had previously been living in a coop we built when we moved onto the property. The coop was sturdy enough to keep larger predators out, but unfortunately mice and rats were able to find their way inside. We did what we could to try to strengthen … [Read More...]
