We share a lot of pics and video of Hanaeleh’s horses. We like to be active in our community, online or offline.
Even though we are a horse rescue, we make time to keep you informed on important equine issues and legislation.
3. Contact your Congressperson and Senators regularly – urge them to be #ProHorse
Horse welfare is being attacked on many fronts by the current administration. It’s never been more important to stay informed and develop relationships with your legislators. A great way to do that is to contact them regularly (weekly, monthly) about equine welfare issues and legislation.
Here are three equine topics at the Federal level that you can urge your legislators to support. You may also have local issues that you’d like them to know about. You can call, email or visit them in person. Most Congresspeople or their staff will make time to meet with you if you call to make an appointment, however given that they are not always in their office, phone calls and emails work best for urgent matters.
- Safeguard American Food Exports Act (SAFE Act) to stop the transport of equines across U.S. borders for slaughter.
- Prevent All Soring Tactics Act (PAST Act) “Horse Protection Act” to stop the cruel abuse of soring horses.
- Humane management of wild horses and burros. The BLM (Bureau of Land Management – a division of the Department of the Interior) is tasked with managing wild horses and burros on public lands. The needless roundups must stop. Urge your legislators to ensure that our Federally-protected wild horses and burros are managed humanely, fairly, and cost-effectively.
