There has been some talk circulating around recently saying that the OC Fairgrounds is planning on eliminating the equestrian center. There are three different plans the Fairgrounds are considering, and it does not appear at all in any of the three plans that there is any indication that the Fairgrounds is razing the equestrian center. Rather, there are funds allocated in the plans to upgrade the equestrian center. This may change, of course, but for now, the equestrian center is included in the new plan. We have seen plans for equestrian centers included, only to be eliminated at a later, date, however, (ie: the Great Park) so it is VERY important that all equestrians in Orange County voice their support of the equestrian center and let the Fairgrounds know that we not only want, but NEED the equestrian center to continue.
The equestrian center is vitally important to our community. Not only is it a public stable that offers lessons and boards local horses, it is legally required to be an evacuation center. Many of the horses who were evacuated from the OPA fires were housed at the OC Fairgrounds, and there are still horses there who are holdovers from the fires.
