UPDATE: We received word from Lucia’s owner that they have found a home for Lucia. Thank you to everyone who helped find Lucia a home!

Hanaeleh helps to network horses who need homes, free of charge. These horses are offered free to a good home, but an adoption agreement and contract are often suggested. Hanaeleh is not responsible for any of the information provided and does not know anything beyond what is listed in the post- please contact the owner directly.
We were contacted by a family who has a 17 year-old grey Azteca mare. Lucia has been with the family for about 14 years, but the owners have both had back/spine surgeries, and can no longer ride or care for her.
Lucia is good on trail and on the street. She is very sweet around people, but is “mareish” around other horses. However, she needs an experienced rider to keep her calm under saddle. She was originally trained by “charro” riders and will “dance” when agitated, which causes her tendons to inflame. If she is ridden normally she is sound. She has shoes on her front feet, but not her hind. Lucia is also prone to coliccing when the weather changes abruptly (from very hot to very cold or back again), but is otherwise healthy. She is currently on orchard hay.
Please note: Lucia is not at Hanaeleh at this time. Her owners have been facing financial hardships in addition to their medical issues and are looking for a good home for Lucia. For more information, please call: (714) 863-1467 or e-mail: arelisauce@aol.com.
