For the past several months we have been working with Maggie to teach her to drive. We finally completely hitched her up to the cart, and she did very well! We will have to change out the shafts for her size (they are currently set for our 1600 pound Friesian, so they’re a bit big for little Maggie), but she did very well. We worked her again this last Saturday, and she pulled the cart around without a problem!
Driving is a great career for older horses like Maggie who can’t be ridden, but who still need to be exercised. Horses who may not be sound for riding, but who have a good mind (not those who are spooky or who startle easily) make excellent driving horses. We look forward to seeing Maggie excel in her second (or perhaps third!) career!
