The fate of America’s horses depends on your Congressperson and Senators. The vote to DEFUND horse slaughter plants in the US is this Wednesday, July 12th and it looks like we’ll lose by ONE vote! Please click the link below to take action… and SHARE this post.
American horses are currently protected from slaughter on American soil, but this could soon change. The U.S. House and Senate Appropriations Committees will decide on July 12th whether the cruel, unnecessary and predatory horse slaughter industry will return to our country.
The current ban on horse slaughter inspections keeps both domesticated and federally managed wild horses and burros safe. But this ban must be renewed by Congress annually, and the stakes are particularly high this year because for the first time, wild horses are in danger of being sold off for slaughter by the thousands.
Wild horses have roamed our plains for hundreds of years and their protections have been in place since 1971. Rather than manage their numbers with humane birth control, the government now wants to kill these horses by shooting them in their pens or by selling them off to the highest bidder, the slaughter buyer.
The vote will be extremely close this year, so a single legislator can make the difference between victory and defeat.
