Hershey is an appendix (Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred cross) who was trained as a jumper and competed in his younger days. Hershey was rescued because his owner could no longer afford to keep him. When Hanaeleh picked him up, he was very thin and very aggressive. He would bite and kick when he was groomed or tacked up, and was lame on his front feet. Eventually we had to put front shoes on his feet to make him comfortable, and worked to mentally recondition him so he did not associate pain with being groomed. He found a wonderful owner named Sara who loves him and showed him for a while; when he developed navicular, she took him to a retirement home. He is now living the good life with an older Thoroughbred gelding.
