It’s that spooky time of year again – that time when we dress horses up in silly outfits and parade them around the arena!
That’s right- it’s Hanaeleh Halloween!
Just as in years past, Hanaeleh Halloween will be held from 11am-1pm at Hanaeleh. This year we will have it on Saturday, October 25th. Please plan on coming at 8:30am as usual, and we will quickly do our cleaning chores before dressing the horses up in silly costumes.
In addition, we will be having a potluck, so please bring your favorite dish to share!
This is a great day to bring friends and family members out to the ranch. It’s a fun, silly afternoon and pictures are highly recommended.
There will be awards presented for the “best of” categories, including the funniest, spookiest, best overall, etc. costumes. We will also be awarding prizes for our volunteers with the most hours logged over the past three months.
Commonly asked questions:
1. Who dresses up the horses?
The volunteers do! (That means you!) I have a sign-up sheet out at the ranch for each horse who will be participating. You can work with another volunteer (or volunteers) to come up with a fun costume for the horse!
2. What if I don’t work with the same horse every week?
Not a problem- just sign up for the horse you want to dress up that week.
3. Is this expensive?
It shouldn’t be- it’s more fun to use your imagination than to go out and spend money. Use what you have around the house. If you need ideas, or are not sure if your idea will work, ask Elizabeth and she can help you!
4. What can I dress my horse up as?
Anything you want! Just remember that anything new to the horse should be introduced beforehand- not all of our horses are tolerant of new things or “clothes.” In addition, don’t dress your horse up in a way that might scare the other horses (ie, no balloons!).
5. What have your horses been in the past?
Lots of different things! Flowers, princesses, dragons, Elvis, prisoners, soccer players, Wonder Woman, ninjas, ghosts, pumpkins, Greek goddesses, Panama Jack, hula girls, bees, Indian ponies, Cyndi Lauper, angels, devils, etc. Have fun with this!
6. Can I dress up?
Please do! It will help Elizabeth feel like less of a nerd as she is usually the only one who comes in costume!
7. Does my costume have to match my horse?
Nope.
8. What should I bring to the potluck?
Anything you think others might enjoy. Please be sure to pack it appropriately (ice, etc.) if it is perishable, as it may be hot that day.
9. When should I tell my family/friends to come out?
We will begin our “parade” at 11am. After that, we will present awards, and then we will eat! 🙂
10. I’m having problems with my calculus homework. Can you please help? I’m supposed to find f(x)=x.
Not a problem. Here’s the solution:
Since the limit exists, we have shown that the derivative of is 1.
Still have questions? Need directions to Hanaeleh? E-mail Elizabeth: elizabeth@hanaeleh.org. But not with calculus problems; that was a one-time thing.
See you on the 25th!
