We are thrilled to announce that Molly, Ruby's long-time favorite volunteer, has decided to formally adopt Ruby! Ruby came to Hanaeleh in December of 2015. Her owner was losing her ranch and had no money to purchase feed, so all of the horses on the ranch were malnourished. Ruby was a retired racehorse and had been a broodmare, but she lost her foal due to malnutrition. UPDATE 2022: Ruby
Ruby is a 21 year-old Thoroughbred mare (she'll be 22 in May!). When Hanaeleh rescued Ruby, she had lost her foal due to starvation and she was very disconnected from life. She was also lame on her front right. After a lot of good food, love and some stall rest, she started to enjoy life again. We realized that Ruby just had thin soles, and would get stone bruises when exercised unless she had some sort of hoof protection. Update: Ruby (August, 2020)
Ruby is a beautiful Thoroughbred who came to Hanaeleh a few years ago because her owner no longer had the money to feed her. She was losing her ranch and other rescues had taken all of her other horses, but none of them would take Ruby. Ruby's future was uncertain so Hanaeleh offered to take her and rehabilitate her. We've had our beautiful Ruby for two years now- she is now 17. Ruby came to us because her owner was losing her ranch and did not have money to feed or care for her horses. Other rescues had offered to take the rest of the horses, but no one wanted a middle-aged Thoroughbred who was not trained to ride. Ruby's fate was uncertain, so Hanaeleh stepped up and rescued her.
