We have the very sad news to report that we had to make the very difficult decision to say goodbye to our girl, Onyx. For those who may not remember, we took in this poor girl last year as she was literally dying from her lack of care. UPDATE: Onyx
Our beautiful Onyx continues to improve everyday. One of the most satisfying aspects of being in rescue is seeing the horses not only improve physically, but also emotionally and mentally. Onyx came to Hanaeleh literally hundreds of pounds underweight. Because she had Cushings disease that was not being treated, the food she was getting was literally killing her, throwing her cortisol levels over 50 times of what should be normal. Update: Onyx Gets Her Teeth Floated
We've been slowly getting Onyx caught up on all of her vaccinations this past month or so, and today she was healthy enough to get her teeth done! In the horse world, we will "float" the horse's teeth, which is essentially filing down any sharp points and making sure the teeth on the bottom "match" the teeth on the top. In the wild, horses eat for eight hours a day, so they naturally wear their teeth down. In domestic situations, even when we feed them several times a day, their teeth still grow … [Read more...]
Update: Onyx Gets a Haircut
We have had Onyx for about two weeks now. We thought we would give a little update so everyone can keep tabs on our newest princess!
