It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Maggie Rose this weekend. Maggie had been having health difficulties since July, and although her owner had worked with nutritionists and veterinarians, Maggie continued to go downhill. Her owner finally made the difficult decision to put Maggie down. Maggie was an Arabian cross who was already elderly when she came to us in July, 2012 from the Riverside Animal Shelter. Maggie has a new home!
Belated congratulations to Sally W. for adopting Maggie! Sally has been working with Maggie for several months and decided that Maggie would be a wonderful addition to her family! Sally's daughter, Natalie, helped rescue a driving horse, Blaze, last year as well. Sally will continue working with Maggie in teaching her how to drive, so you will probably see them cruising down the road in Trabuco Canyon! Congratulations again! … [Read more...]
Maggie is Learning to Drive
For the past several months we have been working with Maggie to teach her to drive. We finally completely hitched her up to the cart, and she did very well! We will have to change out the shafts for her size (they are currently set for our 1600 pound Friesian, so they're a bit big for little Maggie), but she did very well. Maggie Update
Last week we had Maggie tested for Cushings- with her coat growing in the way it has and her general attitude, we wanted to do the blood test to check to see if she was Cushinoid. The results came back and she is, indeed, Cushinoid. We will start her on medication this week and have already changed her diet.
