Rio was adopted by our treasurer, Lori, and has been living at Hanaeleh for about ten years- he is now 25 years old. A few years ago he was diagnosed with a hematoma in his nasal cavity that was impeding air intake, and he was put on prednilosone to help reduce the swelling, and promote regular breathing. UPDATE: Quixote
We rescued Quixote about four years ago. He had been purchased by a family who did not have the ability to work with a horse of his temperament, and quickly became fearful of him. The more difficult he became, the more they left him in his stall. When Hanaeleh took Quixote, he had spent the better part of two years stuck in a small stall. Update: Ulysses
Ulysses came to us several years ago a very different horse than the one he is now. He was severely abused by charros, then abandoned and left to die in a riverbed in Riverside. He was picked up by animal control, and slated to be euthanized the following Monday because he is neurological. Hanaeleh happened to be at the animal shelter to pick up another horse, and a volunteer begged us to take him with us. We put him on the trailer, and the rest is history. UPDATE: Tamahome
What can we say about our good-natured Tamahome, except to say that he is still awesome? OK, well, then- Tamahome is still awesome! He is currently living in a paddock with Sapphire and Ruby, and seems content with his small harem. He also gets to boss around the sheep and ignore the rooster, so he's a pretty busy boy.
