Gypsy is our resident wild Mustang, even though she was rounded up and separated from her family at three years old in 2006. When she was wild, Gypsy was living in California and Nevada before her family was herded up and thrown into holding pens, then separated from one another. If Gypsy's experience was like most wild horse roundups, several of her fellow herd members, including foals, were killed. Update: Sapphire (August, 2020)

Sapphire is a 30+ year young Thoroughbred that Hanaeleh rescued over a decade ago. Her previous owner had hit her with a car while driving through the pasture (he said he thought she would move), and it took us over a year to rehabilitate her from that injury. She had chiropractors and massage therapists working on her every week as she had a rib out of place and a lot of muscle damage. Tamahome is one of our permanent residents at Hanaeleh. He is cared for and loved by our president and founder, Elizabeth, who rescued him from a situation of neglect and abuse. He has been with her for the past 12 years, and is currently 21 years old. Tamahome is one of Hanaeleh's ambassadors- he loves greeting everyone and showing off his tricks for people. Although Hanaeleh is a relatively small rescue, and cannot take in every horse who is in need, we do our best to network horses, both internally and externally, in order to help find them new homes.
