TRABUCO CANYON – When Maggie, an Arabian, tries to roll in her paddock to scratch her itchy coat, Ulysses, a quarter horse, stands over her just to make sure she won’t get too far away from him. “They’ve both just fallen in love with each other,” said Elizabeth Zarkos, director of Hanaeleh, a horse rescue group based in Trabuco Canyon. “They don’t leave each other’s side in the paddock. Apollo
Rescued April 30, 2011 Adopted October 30, 2011 Apollo is a Thoroughbred who was trained as a jumper, but who was owned by a woman who wanted to show dressage. The owner contact Hanaeleh, telling us that she could no longer afford Apollo, but in reality she was frustrated with him. Apollo’s first ride with us looked more like a rodeo than a dressage show, and we determined that most of his issues stemmed from a lack of muscling and inability to use himself correctly. Born February 5, 1987 Rescued March 10, 2011 Adopted April 1, 2012 Passed November 2013 Montana was owned by a couple who was no longer able to afford her. She is a registered Quarter Horse who was very well-trained, but she was 24 when they gave to Hanaeleh, and they were concerned that her age would prohibit her from finding a good home.
