It is with a heavy heart that Hanaeleh has to report that Zorro passed away on Easter morning. Zorro's rescue was a coordination of Hanaeleh, Blue Apple Ranch and Red Bucket Equine Rescue. Red Bucket was contacted when Zorro's owner of 20 years passed away. The brother said that if they did not take him, he was going to sell Zorro to slaughter. Sheepies!
Most people know of the horses at Hanaeleh, but we are also home to other animals as well! Two of our more gregarious residents are Phillip and Magellan, both Babydoll sheep. They are both bottle fed sheep from the Mission Viejo Agriculture Program, and were born in spring, 2012. Phillip and Magellan are both wethers, which is a male neutured sheep. New Budget May Stop Slaughter Plants from Opening in U.S.
Over the past few months, six slaughter plants have requested authorization to start slaughtering horses in the U.S. Governor Fallin in Oklahoma, only last week signed a bill that would allow slaughterhouses in Oklahoma to open, even though the majority of her constituents are against horse slaughter.
