We are very saddened to report that we had to make the very difficult decision to help Grace across the Rainbow Bridge. Grace was a lovely little Arabian mare who was in her mid 30s, and unfortunately age and arthritis started to creep up on her, making the past year difficult. End to Cruelty: Budweiser Promises to Stop Clydesdale Tail Docking
We are very pleased to report that Budweiser, home to the famous Clydesdale horses, has promised to stop docking the tails of their horses (Wamsley, 2023). Tail docking can be done either by wrapping the middle of the tail and preventing the blood from getting to the remaining section, thus starving the tissue, or by surgically amputating the tail. Yearly Teeth Float for Hanaeleh’s Horses
Yearly Dental Check-Up Every year our vet comes out to float all of Hanaeleh's horses teeth. Unlike humans, horses' teeth continue to grow throughout their lifetime. In the wild, horses eat for 10-12 hours a day, so they naturally grind down their teeth. Domesticated horses, however, are fed at intervals, and their teeth can get sharp points. UPDATE: Garnet – Sept 2023
Garnet was rescued by Hanaeleh a little over two years ago. Her previous owner was moving out of state, and couldn't afford to take Garnet with her, but wanted to make sure that Garnet got a safe home. Her concern was compounded by the fact that she believed that Garnet had COPD, and was unable to breathe sufficiently.
