Hanaeleh was invited to present at a local Girl Scout Jamboree in Irvine this month. The girls learned about feed, tack, parts of the horse and horse behavior. We also taught them how to approach a horse and the girls were able to pet them as well. Our two ambassadors were Savannah and Tamahome, who enjoyed their time with the girls, getting treats and attention (they also enjoyed eating the grass!). UPDATE: Tamahome
Tamahome has had a difficult few weeks; he had been living with Sapphire, who was recently adopted, and so he now doesn't have a buddy to hang with. He has been in a funk ever since, so we have been trying to help him rally his spirits by giving him extra attention and putting him out with Rio for some "buddy time." Update: Aurora
We have had Aurora for about two months now, and I will say the past few weeks have made a dramatic difference- Aurora is nothing like the horse who came to us! Aurora came to Hanaeleh because her owners had medical issues and could no longer care for her. At the time they contacted us, we were full, so we tried to network her, but unfortunately she needed more care than people wished to provide. Working Together to Rescue a Baby Donkey, Ends Happily!
We were contacted this week to help rescue a baby donkey who was in dire need. He was one of 55 donkeys that were rounded up in Texas and sent to the Kaufman McBarron Slaughter Holding Station...and scheduled to ship to Mexico. He was actually pulled from the truck on the way to the slaughterhouse! The little donkey was sent to quarantine where he was vetted, wormed and was otherwise healthy.
