Please welcome Stetson, our latest rescue at Hanaeleh! Stetson is a 26 year-old chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. We were originally contacted about Stetson last June when his owner called us asking to help her find a home for him. Horse Soring Ban Pulled for Review by Trump Administration
Horse lovers everywhere applauded the USDA 's recent announcement regarding the ruling update to the Horse Protection Act that would end the abusive practice of horse soring. The USDA announced the ruling on January 13th, 2017, but the Office of the Federal Register did not publish the ruling before Donald Trump and his administration took office. UPDATE: Titan
A few weeks ago we had the veterinarian out to reassess Titan's suspensory tendons. We rescued Titan from his previous owner because his suspensories were torn and he needed a long rehab. It has been six months since we took him in, and he has only been able to walk for about 15-20 minutes per day. We were hoping that the vet would clear Titan to light trotting, but he was concerned that the suspensories were not healed quite enough for trotting yet. RIP Bear
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Bear, our 18 year-old Thoroughbred gelding. Bear was a registered Thoroughbred, bred by Ogden Phipps Mills. His official name was My Secret Brush, and he was a Secretariat progeny. He was raced 39 times, with no wins and only a handful of places, before finally being retired.
