Rescued: May 19, 2010
Retired on March 9, 2011
Raphael was a Thoroughbred who was probably raced when he was younger. While we don’t know much about his younger years, we do know that he was eventually trained as a trail horse. When we took him in, he was owned by a police officer who had been injured, and so Raphael was left for months. A very kind individual at the barn contacted us and paid for Raphael to have his feet trimmed. We spent several months rehabbing Raphael, getting him healthy. After several months, however, it became apparent that Raphael would be happier and healthier in retirement, and he went to live with Ella, another rescue down at Rancho Refugio.
Raphael went over the Rainbow Bridge on August 26th, 2014 after suffering from Wobbles. He was unable to stand on his own and Raphael’s guardian knew it was time to say goodbye. RIP Raphael.
