Gus’ owner contacted Hanaeleh and told us that if we did not come and take Gus, then he would be forced to sell him to a killer buyer. We discovered that Gus was lame, and when the vet refused to put him down, the owner had taken him out on trail and tried to make his injury worse so the vet would euthanize him. We realized that we had to get Gus out of this situation immediately, but we did not have any room, so we put out a plea for help on the Internet. We were very lucky that a wonderful woman was able to take him in! Eventually when she was no longer able to care for Gus, the trainer who had been taking care of him stepped up, and Gus is now a part-time lesson horse up at the L.A. Equestrian Center.
Gus is a very happy boy now! A lot of his health (and all the behavioral) problems went away with some patience and TLC. Once a “Bad horse” that would bite when you walk by, he now even lets young adults ride him without so much as a side eye. He’s very loved and we’re very grateful to Hanaeleh for saving him.
