UPDATE 4/18/25- The owner contacted us and let us know that Virginia has found a home! Thank you to everyone who helped share her story!
Yorba Linda, CA: We were contacted by a woman facing financial hardship who needs help rehoming her 8-year-old Thoroughbred mare, Virginia. Virginia has been diagnosed with kissing spine and will need a home where she will not be ridden.
Please note: Virginia is not currently at Hanaeleh. We are assisting the owner in finding a safe, suitable home for her.
Below is the description provided by the owner:
“She’s super calm and in your pocket type, not spooky, beautiful & moves like a warmblood, quite lazy for a TB. She was a jumper before I got her; the owner rehomed her with the limitation that she could only do flat work and small jumps and she was doing pretty well with me last year until January.
“She has kissing spine, had surgery in 2023 and rehabbed back to full work, but at the beginning of the year she started acting like her back hurt again. I had her x-rayed again and the bone has started to fill back in between the vertebrae. We injected her back and started muscle relaxers in hopes that it would make her more comfortable to continue her job. It helped a bit, but the vet thinks she’s not going to continue being comfortable as a riding horse and needs an early retirement. She is still comfy doing groundwork and turnout though so I’d love her to have the retired pasture life where she has room to move around throughout the day.”
