Tillie is an 18 year-old chestnut Quarter horse mare (we know- ANOTHER chestnut mare!). She is very sweet but very opinionated (as all good chestnut mares are), and will let us know what she thinks about any given situation.
This sweet girl came to Hanaeleh because her owner is dealing with a number of medical issues and was no longer able to care for her horse. She had someone else lined up to care for her, but they ended up selling their property, so Tillie didn’t have anywhere to go. We had a spot open after Jesse was adopted, so we were able to give her a soft place to land.
Tillie has had some accidents in the past that her owner made us aware of, but she’s serviceably sound and otherwise has no health issues.
Tillie’s owner and friend trailered her down to our ranch in OC from northern California, and we put Tillie into the stall next to Garnet and Rylee, where LadyBug had been (LadyBug is now in the stall next to Gypsy). We were warned that Tillie has had some issues with other mares attacking her in the past, but we have so many mares right now that we didn’t have any stalls that aren’t surrounded by mares! Thankfully, Tillie seemed to settle into the stall without any issues, and except for a few dirty looks between her and Rylee, everything seems pretty mellow.
One of Tillie’s favorite things to do is run around in the arena and yell for her now best friend, Garnet. That’s right- she and Garnet became best buddies after about 24 hours, and both scream for each other when one is taken away. What is it about Garnet, anyway? Everyone loves her! In any case, Tillie has a new best friend, and Rylee it seems has decided to tolerate her, so at any time the girls can be seen hanging out next to each other.
We look forward to getting to know Tillie better, and to watch her blossoming friendship with Garnet (and kind of) with Rylee!
