UPDATE: We have received several offers to help Williamette, and we have turned over all options to her owner! At this point I think that she has plenty of different options to help her keep her horse. Thank you so much for everyone who offered to help! 🙂
We were contacted by a woman who is looking for a place to board her mare for a short time until she can find a more permanent place. Williamette is a 29 year-old mare who has been a medical service animal, and is very sweet and easy to work with. Williamette requires soaked pellets instead of hay- this just means that the pellets are put into a bucket for about five minutes before feeding to her. Her teeth are too poor for hay, and she will choke if the pellets are not soaked. The current facility where she is boarding the horse doesn’t want to spend the time to soak the feed. Unfortunately the owner is on a very limited budget and the places she has contacted to board her horse don’t want to deal with the soaked feed. She is willing to pay some board and will obviously pay for all feed and medical care.
The owner has only a few weeks to find a new place for Williamette, or she will be forced to put her down. Hanaeleh does not have any stalls available, which is why we are asking our base to see if there is someone out there who might be able to help.
