Southern California, CA: Horses and Donkeys in Need of a New Home!

February 18, 2023 By ezarkos

We are very saddened to hear of the passing of a volunteer sanctuary manager who quite suddenly passed away just recently. The sanctuary assistant manager is filling in as needed to oversee the new and remaining caregivers and their sanctuary duties. However, in the wake of this sudden loss the sanctuary has decided to downsize a little.

Hanaeleh is helping to network these horses/donkeys, but we have no other information other than what you see here. If you are interested in any of these horses/donkeys, please fill out our horse inquiry form, and we will forward your information onto the rescue.

Sunshine

Sunshine is a sweet young bay mare, turning seven years old this year. She is a Quarter horse cross. She is timid (she was an animal control rescue). Sunshine needs to be sedated for a full trim, but with more time and training she may improve. She does not load well, and unfortunately the rescue has not been able to work on that. She is barefoot and sound. She is currently being worked with at the sanctuary and just needs someone who wants to continue helping her gain more confidence.

Sophie

Sophie is a sweet but timid chestnut mare. She is an Arabian cross. She is approximately 15 years old. She has had some training, but it has been several years, so she would need someone to restart her. She is barefoot and sound. She needs sedation for a full trim, so any new owner would need to work on that. She does load with other horses.

Hope

Hope is a sweet chestnut mare. She is a Quarter horse cross. She will be nine years old this year. The rescue saved her from a “euthanasia party” when she was only six months old. Hope was started under saddle training in 2017, but training funds ran out so she did not train with a rider. She is barefoot and sound. She trims and loads well.

Lily Sienna

Lily Sienna is a sweet 16 year-old bay Thoroughbred mare. She is trained to ride and had been adopted out, but her previous owner was unable to care for her, and she returned to the rescue. She had a jumping injury that doesn’t bother her at liberty, but she will sometimes come up lame when being ridden. She likes to be the lead mare if placed with others in a pasture or shared enclosure. Lily Sienna is barefoot and trims and loads well.

Libby

Libby is a really sweet, gentle and calm black mare. She is a Quarter horse cross. She is approximately 18 years old. She is barefoot, and trims and loads well and easy to handle on the ground. Libby is on a daily medication called Equioxx to help with arthritis.

Daphne and Kayla- REHOMED!

We are pleased to say that Daphne and Kayla have new homes! Thank you to everyone who helped to network them!

None of the horses/donkeys on this page are at Hanaeleh. If you are interested in any of these horses/donkeys, please fill out our horse inquiry page and we will forward your information onto the rescue.
