Raven is a 16 year-old Friesian mare who came to Hanaeleh a few months ago. She had been given to a trainer as a lesson horse, but unfortunately she isn’t trained to ride, and the trainer didn’t have time to train her. She wanted to make sure that Raven found a safe home, which is why she came to Hanaeleh.
When Raven first came to Hanaeleh, she had very poor ground manners and would crowd the person walking her and even push them over! Thankfully Raven has since learned the concept of personal space, and she is much easier to work with now. She loves being groomed, but she definitely has a time limit- after about 30 minutes of standing, she starts getting antsy and will move around at the tie rail.
We were going to start Raven’s ground training last week, but she came up lame on her right side, and we have been trying to determine the reason behind that lameness. We have had the farrier and the massage therapist out to work with her, but neither could determine the issue, so we will next need to have the vet out to determine why she is uncomfortable on her right front. Overall, however, Raven is incredibly sweet and loves everyone, and believes that everyone is there at the ranch to love her and give her treats.
